How can school leaders successfully navigate the challenges of the job over the course of a long, rewarding and effective career? This day-long course will provide school leaders with an opportunity to reflect on their role – and what is needed to ensure it is a sustainable one.
It’s a wonderful job, but school leadership does not get any more straightforward. A strategic approach to issues such as managing workload, change, and difficult situations is vital in order for leaders to feel that they are in it for the long haul.
A key theme of the day will be the principle that, because everyone’s context is different, everyone’s approach to achieving a long and fulfilling career must also be different.
Learning outcomes:
- To have developed further your understanding regarding the challenges of school leadership in 2026-27
- To have considered and explored the key barriers to maintaining a long, fulfilling and successful career in school leadership
- To have identified the changes that are necessary to ensure career sustainability, whether via profound shifts in work practice and mind-set, through to creating a bank of simple hacks.
During the day we will look in detail at those aspects of the role that consistently are identified as the biggest threats to a happy career.
