Developing multiplicative reasoning in KS2 helps children move beyond rote recall to support their wider understanding of reasoning and manipulation of number. This twilight will give examples of how to weave this into your maths teaching.
Learning outcomes
- To understand why schools who have excellent MTC scores don’t always transfer into good KS2 mathematics outcomes
- To review the VNET MTC strategy and understand the next steps to go beyond Year 4 recall to develop multiplicative reasoning
- To share examples of how to weave and model multiplicative reasoning examples into daily mathematics lessons
- Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their MTC strategy alongside their maths curriculum and learn how to best to move children from rote recall to reasoning.
