The School Business Leader Wellbeing Index
The School Business Managers and Administrators’ Network provides an opportunity to network with fellow administrative staff, this term we are joined by Louis Musgrove from Education Mutual to discuss The School Business Leader Wellbeing Index, an annual research project conducted by them since 2022.
It was established to provide valuable insight into the mental health and wellbeing of School Business Leaders (SBLs) across England and Wales, recognising the unique pressures they face in their roles. Each year, Education Mutual surveys SBLs to capture the current state of their wellbeing, producing a comprehensive report that highlights key trends, challenges, and areas for support.
Over time, the Index has grown in scope and influence. Responding to requests from within the sector, Education Mutual now publishes tailored versions of the findings for maintained schools and multi-academy trusts. This refinement ensures that the research reflects the distinct contexts in which SBLs operate, offering more relevant data and recommendations for each audience. As the project approaches its fourth year, the Index has become a key indicator for sector-wide discussions on wellbeing.
Education Mutual actively shares the findings at local group meetings and major national conferences, raising awareness and encouraging proactive support for the SBL community. By shining a light on wellbeing, the Index not only informs policy and practice but also empowers SBLs to feel heard, valued, and supported in their demanding roles.
We are always keen to take ideas and suggestions for the group. Please join us by booking below!
