Declining Birth Rates: What Does This Mean for Schools?
Declining birth rates are reshaping the education landscape, with significant implications for pupil numbers, school funding, staffing, and long-term financial sustainability. This session will help school business managers understand the national picture and what it means for schools across Norfolk.
The session will explore how falling rolls can affect budgets, workforce planning, curriculum delivery, estate management, and the efficient use of resources. It will also consider the role that school business leaders play in supporting strategic planning, using demographic and admissions data to anticipate change and inform decision-making by governors.
Looking beyond individual schools, the session will examine how pupil place planning works and why understanding the wider local context is increasingly important. As schools face growing financial pressures, collaboration and forward planning will be key to maintaining a sustainable and resilient education system.
Participants will leave with a greater understanding of the challenges created by declining pupil numbers, increased confidence in interpreting relevant data, and practical insights to support effective financial and operational planning within their school.
The School Business Managers and Administrators Network provides an opportunity to network with fellow administrative staff. There is so much knowledge and experience to share amongst the wide variety of business managers and administrators in the membership. Over the last five years the group has thrived as a non-judgemental forum for support and the sharing of ideas. We ask external providers to come and talk and/or provide training as and when required, covering topics such as Ofsted preparation, resilience training, lockdown procedures and wellbeing.
