Effective and Sustainable School Leadership

How can school leaders successfully navigate the challenges of the job over the course of a long and rewarding career? What does it take not only to survive as a leader, but to thrive?

This day-long course will provide school leaders with an opportunity to reflect on their role and what is needed to ensure it is a sustainable one. Leadership roles are exceptionally rewarding, but rarely straightforward. A strategic approach to issues such as managing workload, change and difficult situations is vital in order for leaders to feel that they are in it for the long haul.

The key theme of the day is that career fulfilment is personal; because everyone’s context is different, their path to a long and successful career must be unique.

Training objectives
  • To reflect on the role of the school leader in 25/26
  • To develop your understanding of what you need to do in order to make the job sustainable
  • To feel confident about the road ahead.
Learning outcomes
  • To have developed further your understanding of school leadership this year and of the challenges specific to your context
  • To have identified the changes that are necessary to ensure career sustainability – whether via profound shifts in work practice and mind-set, through to creating a bank of simple hacks
  • To have developed a plan to help you feel confident about the journey ahead and your ability to be the best school leader you can be, for as long as you want to.
Target Audience: School Leaders, Deputies, Assistant Headteachers, SENDCOs
