Using Data to Improve Standards

Wednesday, November 13, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
With sights set on the ambition that all children should meet expected standard, this session explains the accountability system and examines different assessment data. There will be a practical focus on analysis and reporting to different stakeholders, including governors, all with a focus on accountability and raising standards.

The one-day course will take a deep dive into the murky world of primary assessment to help senior leaders, assessment leads and SENCOs make sense of an increasingly complex and confusing area. Statutory assessment, performance measures, ASP, IDSR, standardised tests, and tracking systems will all be explored in detail.

Following an initial morning session that will provide the facts and figures on primary school performance, we will explore how various methods of assessment can be used to identify gaps and next steps in core and foundation subjects. In the afternoon, we will look at the benefits and limitations of standardised tests and clarify some misconceptions arising from the data. The day will finish with an overview of assessment systems, looking at how they can be used to monitor pupil progress, track effectiveness of SEND provision, report to key audiences including parents and governors, and reduce workload.
