Responsive Teaching – Harry Fletcher-Wood
Wednesday, January 12, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Many of us were thrilled to be able to listen to Dylan Wiliam at our conference this month. Dylan reminded us of the importance of clarifying learning intentions, eliciting evidence of learning and providing feedback that moves pupils forward. He noted that this is what we call “responsive teaching”. We are delighted that Harry Fletcher-Wood will join us to further develop these themes with an online session ‘Responsive teaching: identifying and meeting pupils’ needs’.
How can teachers identify who has understood what in the classroom? And how can they help all pupils to improve?
- This session looks at simple, effective ways to check what all pupils have understood.
- It examines the principles of feedback, which can help all pupils improve – while ensuring workload is reasonable.
- It shares both big ideas, and practical techniques teachers can use to respond to pupil need, effectively and efficiently.
Responsive teaching helps teachers refine their approach to fundamental challenges in the classroom. Based on research from cognitive science and formative assessment, it ensures teachers can offer all pupils the support and challenge they need – and can do so sustainably.
