Positive psychology is the applied science of wellbeing with a range of evidence-based practices to help you function well. The higher your wellbeing, the more productive and resilient you become. This is the Happiness Advantage. This course, led by Miriam Akhtar MAPP, puts positive psychology to work with practical tools for the enhancement of wellbeing, achievement and resilience.

Webinar 1: Positive Psychology for Wellbeing
  • Explore the foundations of wellbeing, the PERMA model of flourishing and Positive Psychological Capital.
  • The P in PERMA stands for Positive Emotions. They not only feel good, they do us good too. Discover how positive emotions broaden our thinking and build resources to support resilience. Plus the positivity practices that add the feel-good factor.
Webinar 2: Positive Psychology for Achievement. Pre-work.

  • Your greatest potential for growth comes from knowing and using your strengths. Strengths act as a toolkit in positive psychology, to help people reach goals and resolve issues. Get to know your strengths and how to apply them.
  • Discover some of the other ingredients of achievement – motivation, mindset and grit.
Webinar 3: Positive Psychology for Resilience

Our final session is about applying positive psychology to build resilience and recover our wellbeing.

  • Positive Coping. Explore emotion-focused and problem- focused forms of coping.
  • Optimistic Explanatory Style. The form of optimism you can learn.
  • The ABCDE model, which is a major element of the Penn Resilience Programme.

Miriam Akhtar MAPP is an expert in positive psychology and one of a hundred global contributors to the World Book of Happiness, presented to 200 world leaders. Miriam is the author of six books including The Little Book of Happiness, Positive Psychology for Overcoming Depression and What Is Post-traumatic Growth. She works as a trainer and coach in business and delivers resilience training to clients ranging across medicine, the media, and the military. She has facilitated the world-leading Penn Resilience Programme and is one of the experts featured in Psychologies magazine’s books on mental wellbeing. Miriam is an international keynote speaker and a visiting lecturer on the Executive Masters of Applied Positive Psychology (EMAPP) at the University of Lisbon.
