A series of 3 online mathematics sessions led by Maths Associate, Becky Clinton.

Session 1 – Reasoning and Problem-Solving

These are the two of the main aims of the National Curriculum. Generally, schools have tackled fluency well and it is the development of reasoning and problem solving that still troubles some teachers. This session is full of practical ideas to support effective reasoning and problem solving in lessons across the whole primary age range.

Session 2 – Mastery in Maths, Tuesday 24 May 2022

Although the National Curriculum makes few references to mastery in maths, it is generally accepted now that a mastery curriculum is an effective way to ensure that children are getting a real grasp of mathematical concepts without tricks and quick fixes. In this session we will discuss what mastery is, what it looks like across the maths curriculum and how long-term and medium-term planning are crucial to supporting this philosophy. We will also answer some common myths about differentiation and mastery working together.

Session 3 – Formative Assessment, Monday 6 June 2022

Formative assessment is an integral part of effective teaching. It drives the planning process and supports the learning that children need to have in order to make progress. There are many ways we can work with children to ensure they know more and remember more. Retrieval is an important aspect of learning and effective formative assessment can support that process. This hour-long session looks at different types of formative assessment in maths and how they can be integrated across a unit of work and in different parts of a lesson.

The cost is per person.
