As practitioners, I am sure that we can all recall the time when we taught that great lesson on a Monday, yet, by Tuesday, the pupils’ knowledge appeared to have simply evaporated overnight!

“Cognitive Science principles of learning can have a real impact on rates of progress in the classroom.” EEF, 2021

In the first session, we will explore the concept of ‘whole brain’ learning as an evidenced-based technique for improving retention, recall, and securing learning by locking knowledge into the long-term memory bank so that pupils’ learning lingers.

Session 2: Thursday 26 May 2022, 4.00 pm – 5.30 pm

In the second session, delegates will get the opportunity to observe and discuss how whole cognitive science strategies can be built into a unit of work in a foundation subject.

In between sessions 2 and 3, delegates will teach a unit using the recommended strategies and conduct Pupil Book Study to evaluate the extent to which the learning has been retained.

Session 3:  Monday 20 June 2022, 4.00 – 5.30 pm

The third session will give delegates the opportunity to evaluate the trialled strategies, share pupils’ work with colleagues, and to reflect on the results from Pupil Book Study.

Trainer: Emma Adcock

Audience: Teachers
