Implementing Secondary Literacy to Raise Student Outcomes

Over two online sessions, led by Ruth Everett, delegates will be introduced to the notion of disciplinary, or subject-specific literacy, and how its successful implementation across the secondary curriculum leads to improved outcomes for all students at KS3/4. We will examine current evidence and research around disciplinary literacy, the particular barriers senior leaders face at the implementation phase, then consider evidence-based subject specific strategies which have proven impact in secondary schools.
The course will provide senior leaders with the confidence to audit their current whole-school literacy provision and next steps.
Objectives:
For delegates to have a deep understanding how disciplinary literacy differs but complements traditional literacy approaches and then consider how to begin implementing whole school evidence-based approaches.
