How to Run a Vocabulary Intervention Session
Wednesday, February 2, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
What we’ve learned in recent years, is that vocabulary is a proxy for academic success!
Limited vocabulary prevents children from accessing their learning, developing self-esteem, and enjoying meaningful social interactions.
The word gap between those with additional needs and their typically developing peers can be daunting. It is unrealistic to expect any intervention to close this gap. Instead, we can focus on the words that matter.
By teaching specific curriculum words that every child will encounter in the curriculum, we can minimise the impact of word learning difficulties and increase access to the curriculum.
In this session, we will consider how small group work can be used to pre-teach words that children will be exposed to in the classroom.
This session will offer concrete, easy-to-implement activities and resources to use in small groups in order to maximise the impact on learning and open up access to the curriculum.
Audience: Teachers, Teaching Assistants
Objectives: To know how to run an effective vocabulary group session.
Outcomes: Teachers and Teaching Assistants will be able to take away effective, evidence-based ideas to support the pre-teaching of vocabulary.
Recordings of the sessions and resources will be available for your use in school.
The cost is per person.
