Exploring the Expectations for Senior Leaders’ Knowledge of EYFS in Schools
Wednesday, September 28, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Expectations from the DfE and Ofsted are such that the curriculum starts at the beginning of a child’s journey in school. This has significant implications for all subject leaders responsible for curriculum design, monitoring of curriculum implementation and the evaluation of the impact on children’s outcomes.
Do you, in your role as a senior leader in your school, recognise how vital it is that all senior staff understand Early Years principles and pedagogy? Have you considered what the learning journey do children embark on and complete in your school? It can be hard to integrate your Early Years fully within the school. How do you develop mutual respect and knowledge sharing within your staff team?
This online briefing session aims to strengthen headteachers and senior leaders’ understanding of the core principles of Early Years Foundation Stage and how these are translated into practice, the curriculum and assessment.
Objectives:
- To unpick the expectation from the DfE and Ofsted.
- To consider the importance of having a vision which is shared by all. A whole school approach.
- To explore the key principles in the EYFS and what monitoring and assessment of children achievements looks like in this phase of learning.
- To explore the balance between valuing individual expertise while facilitating mutual respect and sharing knowledge.
By the end of the session, senior leaders will:
- Be clear about curriculum intent in the early years.
- Be clear that the early curriculum lays the foundations for the school’s curriculum as a whole.
- Be clear that the early years curriculum lays the foundations for what comes next.
- Have considered what the learning is like for a child in school.
- Understand the need to have effective monitoring mechanisms that assure that the school’s EYFS provision is working.
- Have thought about the importance of having a whole school approach with regard to the curriculum, monitoring and assessment
- Consider how to facilitate mutual respect and knowledge at all stages throughout the school.
This session will be recorded. The recording and resources will be available on our courses platform. After the event you will receive an email with the link.
