Best Practice when working with young people with Autistic Spectrum Condition
Monday, February 27, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
We know that around 70% of children with autism spectrum disorders in the UK attend mainstream primary schools. However, you may feel that your school struggles to provide the support that autistic children need.
A poor classroom environment for autism can hugely disadvantage children with the condition. Most notably, it can cause them difficulty with engaging in learning activities and coping with daily life and these issues can have a lasting impact.
Having a child with autism in the classroom can be a challenge, but also can be incredibly fulfilling if you know how to provide the right support. Whether it’s helping them to maintain their routine, handle sensory overload, or engage in learning in a way that resonates with them, the correct support can help significantly.
This half day course will outline some practical methods and ideas to support pupils with Autistic Spectrum Condition within the classroom. This will be a mixture of some theory and a practical session visiting a classroom at Parkside School which is set up as provision for pupils with Autism.
This event is for VNET members only.
