Appropriate Support for Accessing the Curriculum for ASC

Thursday, June 22, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

During this session we will look firstly at the parameters of curriculum development in relation to SEND: what is required and what freedoms schools have. We will explore why it’s important that a school’s curriculum offer is clear and consistently delivered. We will then go on to think about what those curriculum decisions may mean for pupils with ASC or with a combination of needs. We will take a pragmatic approach to what might be meant by reasonable adjustments for accessibility. We will finish by bringing together how a key range of school’s policies (SEND/ Behaviour/ attendance and accessibility) can work together to provide a framework within which all children can flourish.

Training Objectives

To provoke thought and practical ideas for accessibility

Learning Outcomes

An improved understanding of the significance of policy alignment and of the curriculum modelling to maximise accessibility for all pupils.
