SUMMARY:Humanities Professional Community 25/26 – History and Geography
DESCRIPTION:The Humanities Professional Community is a supportive network which will provide time and space to explore research and innovation in the subject\, engage with professional reading and gain insight into the National picture in the subject. \nDuring each session agenda items will combine items requested from community members as well updates and resources from those organisations such as the DfE\, Ofsted and the EEF that influence and support the teaching of these subjects in our schools. \nEvidence-based practice and pedagogy will underpin the thinking of every session. Time is made to reflect on recommended best practice. Working within a community of supportive colleagues\, these discussions ensure maximum impact on practice back in school. \nThe sessions will be designed to combine the element of reflection and sharing of best practice with the opportunity to network with like-minded colleagues. Sessions will seek to support both new and experienced subject leaders/subject co-ordinators in all settings. It will provide access to practical tools and resources which can be used in school. \nThe Humanities Professional Community for 2025-26 will focus on three key areas: \nAction Planning\, Monitoring and Evaluation Members will develop and implement effective action planning frameworks\, alongside establishing robust monitoring and evaluation systems including judging progress in pupils’ books and understanding the new Ofsted toolkit 2025. \nCurriculum and Assessment Review The community will explore the implications of the current Curriculum and Assessment Review for humanities teaching and learning\, ensuring the school stays aligned with evolving national expectations. \nQuality First Teaching in Humanities Focus will be placed on strengthening quality first teaching approaches\, including designing effective learning experiences and tasks across all key stages that engage pupils and deepen their understanding of humanities subjects. \nThis year the termly community sessions will all be held in person at Roundwood\, Taverham\, by VNET Associate Maria Curry. Maria worked for OFSTED as one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors for schools for the past five years.
