DESCRIPTION:Join us for an introduction to the engagement model\, training that can be adapted to both special and mainstream schools. This session is led by Lucy Kent\, an engagement model tutor who has worked with SENCOs and SEND practitioners to support the delivery of this model. The training will take your school through the practice\, assessment and moderation of engagement with real examples and case study pupils. \nTraining objectives\n\nTo develop an understanding of the engagement model – this is a statutory assessment tool and directed towards pupils who are P1 – P4. However this tool is useful for a wide variation of need\nThe training will provide the audience with realistic examples that can act as a “takeaway” for their classrooms\, to include assessment and planning\nClear explanations of the model through the 5 areas of Engagement.\n\nLearning outcomes\n\nTo gain knowledge and understanding of the engagement model\nTo leave the training with a clear overview of how to use this assessment model with their complex learners.\n\nTarget audience: SENCOs\, Teachers and SLT’s\nThis training is led by SEND specialist Lucy Mills. SUMMARY:Pupil Anxiety: Why It Happens and What We Can Do
DESCRIPTION:Why are our pupils anxious? And what can we do about it?\nMore and more of our pupils are struggling with anxiety\, and it’s getting in the way of their learning. In this session\, we’ll look at the reasons our pupils feel this way and\, more importantly\, talk about exactly what we can do to help. We will focus on simple\, practical steps every teacher can take to support anxious pupils and get them back on track. \nWith 1 in 5 school aged children reportedly struggling with significant levels of anxiety\, it’s vital that educators are able to: \n\nSpot the signs when a pupil is struggling with anxiety\nUnderstand anxiety loops\nKnow which strategies to use to help them cope and build resilience\nDiscover what not to say (because nobody wants to accidentally make the situation worse).\n\nDelegates will leave the session with practical ideas that schools can use and share with parents too. \nThis session is hosted by Emma Shackleton\, SEMH and Behaviour Consultant.
