SUMMARY:Sensory Systems and Behaviour
DESCRIPTION:Within this session we will explore the three lesser-known sensory systems in more depth – vestibular\, proprioceptive and Interoception. We will be exploring the role these senses play in how we interact with the world around us along with the implications if there is difficulty in processing these senses. We will suggest ways we can cater for these needs in practical\, cost\, and time effective ways. \nSensory processing can be the cause of unusual behaviour. This can include behaviour that is repetitive and\, in some cases\, can be disruptive to the child and those around them. Examples of behaviour may include- spitting\, banging and crashing into things\, tapping\, slapping\, spinning\, biting\, picking\, climbing\, lack of pain or temperature awareness and excessive movement seeking – to name a few! \nLearning outcomes: \n\nParticipants will leave the training with a deeper understanding of sensory processing as well as practical and useful ideas they can adopt and implement in their settings\nTo learn how to formulate and implement a Sensory Profile\nTo leave with further tools to support these young people to be active\, engaged and happy learners in their settings.\n\nAudience: Many neurodiverse young people are educated in mainstream settings so this training is particularly relevant to professionals supporting these young people. It is also relevant to fellow professionals in Specialist Settings as sensory processing is often a key factor in challenging behaviour presented. This training is for anyone working in education working hard to meet the needs of complex learners. \nThis training will be delivered by Belinda Brookes and Heidi Alexander\, John Grant School. Both are trained educationalists with a wealth of expertise and experience in the education of children and young people who are neurodiverse. They are are not therapists\, their knowledge and practice is routed in current research from neuroscience and education.

SUMMARY:Tasks to Build Essential Knowledge in Non-core Subjects
DESCRIPTION:Designing Purposeful Tasks in the Wider Curriculum\nAre your foundation subjects falling flat with low-level tasks that don’t match your ambitious curriculum? \nThis practical course tackles a common problem: choosing the right tasks to build and test essential knowledge in non-core subjects. Too often lessons can lack meaningful practice activities and\, in some cases\, units can end abruptly without checking what pupils actually remember. \nThrough real examples you will learn to design practice tasks that help pupils retain lesson content and also create end-of-unit activities that genuinely demonstrate learning. No more weak worksheet endings or missed opportunities to consolidate knowledge! \nLeave with a toolkit of effective task types and the confidence to choose activities that truly build essential knowledge in your non-core subjects. \nParticipants will be able to:\n\nPlan practice tasks that help pupils remember what they learned in each lesson\nCreate end-of-unit tasks that show pupils have learned key knowledge.\n\nAudience: Primary and Curriculum Teachers in KS1/2

SUMMARY:Understanding Complex Needs and Non-speaking Learners
DESCRIPTION:This training will explore the needs of pupils with complex profiles\, including many autistic learners and those with developmental or learning differences who may rely on alternative ways to communicate. We will look at the barriers these pupils can face in school\, particularly around communication\, emotional regulation\, and mental health. A key focus of the session is the effective use of visual supports – rather than simply introducing what visuals are\, we will explore where to start and how to implement them successfully\, in real classroom contexts. \nAlongside practical strategies\, the training will also introduce key theories that help us understand behaviour\, communication\, and wellbeing in learners with complex needs. We will reflect on the crucial role educators play in supporting pupils’ mental health\, sense of safety\, and ability to communicate. \nTraining objectives \n\nSupport complex learner profiles\nBreak down classroom barriers\nImplement effective visual supports\nBoost communication and regulation\nImprove student mental health.\n\nParticipants will leave with a clearer understanding of non-speaking learners and practical\, classroom-ready approaches to help pupils communicate\, regulate\, and engage in learning. \nAudience: SENCOs\, Teachers\, Teaching Assistants and SLT \nThis training will be delivered by VNET Associate Darleen Grimsby\, Trust SENDCo\, Inclusion Officer and author of Developing Educational Plans for Learners with SEND. She supports a network of schools to develop inclusive practices and provision for students with complex needs.

SUMMARY:Adaptive Teaching for TAs – INSET
DESCRIPTION:This online session focuses on the vital role Teaching Assistants play in adaptive teaching to ensure all pupils achieve their best. We will move beyond simply ‘helping’ to using scaffolding and modelling that builds pupil independence over time. \nYou will learn how to use high-quality interactions to identify gaps in understanding and provide the ‘just- right’ amount of support. We will explore how your observations contribute to the ‘graduated approach’ – assess\, plan\, do\, and review – helping to remove barriers for pupils with SEND or those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The goal is ensuring pupils don’t just complete tasks\, but truly secure foundational knowledge for long-term success. \nLearning outcomes \n\nUnderstand the difference between adaptive teaching and differentiation\nWhy understanding pupils’ barriers can help when deciding how to support pupils using adaptations\nUnderstand some of the methods that Teaching Assistants can use to support adaptive practices in the classroom\nBe able to confidently work alongside Teachers to provide the best environment for all pupils to learn in the classroom.\n\nAudience: Teaching Assistants \nThis INSET session is designed for both whole-school delivery and individual study. You can access it via a single group link for team training or register staff for independent learning.

SUMMARY:Adaptive Teaching for Teachers – INSET
DESCRIPTION:Adaptive teaching is not about creating different worksheets or reducing expectations. It is about every pupil – across the primary phase – accessing the same ambitious curriculum\, with the right support at the right moment. \nThis 90-minute interactive webinar puts adaptive teaching into practice. Grounded in the latest EEF evidence\, it focuses on three things that make an immediate difference in any classroom: \n\nChecking for understanding in a way that genuinely reaches every pupil\nMaking confident in-the-moment decisions about what to do next\nScaffolding that opens up access without removing challenge or creating dependency.\n\nAt the heart of this session is a practical toolkit – phase-specific strategies and adaptations from Early Years through to upper Key Stage 2 – that you can open on Monday morning and use straight away. It is rooted in inclusion – the belief that adaptive teaching\, done well\, is simply what great teaching looks like for every child. \nLearning outcomes:\n\nExplain the difference between differentiation\, scaffolding and adaptive teaching and why the distinction matters for every pupil across the primary phase\nSelect and use practical techniques to check for understanding in a way that reaches every learner\nIdentify barriers to learning quickly and make confident in-the-moment decisions about how to respond\nChoose and apply scaffolds that give pupils access to ambitious learning without removing challenge or creating dependency\nUse the adaptive teaching toolkit to plan responsive\, inclusive lessons within their own classroom context.\n\nAudience: This session is for teachers at any stage of their career.\nThis INSET session is designed for both whole-school delivery and individual study. You can access it via a single group link for team training or register staff for independent learning.
